Comic Paintings

I know this is like ancient history, as it is the end of January, but I must tell you about what I did for my hubby for Christmas. He has recently gotten into comic books, and months ago he said it would be cool if I painted him a picture of his favorite comic book characters. I just stored that little piece of information away and decided it would be a perfect Christmas gift.

I painted 3 different watercolor studies of Batman, The Flash, and The Green Lantern. And Wowza! I think they turned out great. I started working on them in October, and finished right in the nick of time. Here they are:

Illustration Friday: separated

This weeks Illustration Friday theme is “separated.” The first idea that came to my mind was a really simple one, and I thought it turned out really cute. My husband and I grew up in the west (in Utah and Idaho), and we live clear across the country in Virginia. That is a huge distance of separation! This is just a little illustration showing that. What do you think?

Illustration Friday: silent

Well, I missed last week’s Illustration Friday (again!) . . . I spent all last week on vacation in Utah visiting my family. It was much needed! The theme last week was stripes, and I had lots of great ideas. Perhaps I will post up an illustration late.

Anyhow, this week the theme is silent. The first thing that popped into my mind was the line from ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas” . . . “not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.”

So here is my illustration. Let me know what you think!

Illustration Friday: scary!

I’m back in the Illustration Friday game! Last week was one of the craziest weeks of my life (no exaggeration), we had so much going on! So I skipped last week. This weeks topic, though: scary!!! And although Halloween was a few days ago, that’s what came to my mind. So here’s a quick little sketch of a jack-o-lantern. Happy (late) Halloween!!

Illustration Friday: scattered

This weeks theme for Illustration Friday is “scattered.” I had so many ideas with this one! I chose a pretty simple concept of a little girl blowing a dandelion. I think it turned out cute! I was going for a more painterly look~I wanted to be able to see the brush strokes, etc. Although now that I look at it, there are a few things I’d like to clean up and fix. But overall, I think it’s a keeper!

Illustration Friday: contraption

This weeks topic for Illustration Friday was contraption. I had a lot of fun with this one. When I told Bryce the topic, he started rattling off a bunch of ideas~such a great husband! I went with one of his ideas of a little boy building a contraption/toy of some sort in his room. My idea was to have a big messy room with toys everywhere. I kinda simplified that a little bit . . . but I still think it turned out super cute! What do you think?

Illustration Friday: hibernate

Back in college, I learned about Illustration Friday. It was a little piece of information that I just pushed to the back of my brain because I was so busy with work, school, homework assignments, and whatnot. And then I completely forgot about it . . . until now!

Let me explain what it is. Illustration Friday is a website that posts a new topic every Friday. It is a great way for artists/illustrators to think of the topic and create an illustration. Artists then have the whole week to submit entries, and the next Friday, a new topic is presented. I thought it would be a good way to dust off my illustrating skills~ I love painting and creating, but I don’t have the challenge of being presented a topic (like in college) and having to work with it. Now I do!!

This weeks topic: hibernate. Here is a little something that I whipped up today. And ironically, I feel like I am hibernating myself. I am a bit under the weather today and am hiding underneath a mound of blankets on my couch. Anyway, here’s my illustration. What do you think?

Stained Glass ~ Tetons and Wildflowers

Several weeks ago, a wonderful lady contacted me about doing a stained glass piece for her. She wanted a piece with the Tetons and yellow wildflowers. I was so excited about doing a stained glass piece, and the Jackson Hole area always has a special place in my heart.

The following week, my husband and I went to the Jackson area for a family reunion. I received wonderful inspiration for the piece, as the wildflowers were completely out of this world!!! I’ve never seen anything so beautiful. So when we got back from our little vacay, I got to work. It was so fun designing the pattern, choosing the glass, and making this piece. It turned out so good that I want to keep it. Or maybe remake it for myself! At any rate, it was so wonderful doing stained glass again and it reminded me of how much I love it.
