|Out of the Box
Saturday, April 9th, 2011
The National Museum of Wildlife Art is a fantastic gallery in Jackson, WY. The past several years, I have been able to participate in an artists show called “Out of the Box,” where dozens of artists create a box, and then they hold a silent auction as a fundraiser to the gallery. It really is pretty neat.
My first time doing this was in 2007. I was so excited and had big plans for my box. I spent months and months working on a stained glass box. Here it is: (it ended up selling for $300!)
The next time was in 2009. I was in the middle of taking a book/box making class at college, and so I made this beauty. It turned out very simple and beautiful- a great representation of the Jackson Hole area.
Well, this year, I also made a box using my box-making skills, but this time it was Buffalo Joe themed! I thought it would be a good promotion for my book that will hopefully be out soon. Here is the finished product.
The Out of the Box show and auction is on June 11th, 2011. Anyone from the area ought to go check it out.

Awww, that made me feel good!
Monday, August 30th, 2010
It’s been a little while since I have posted anything, so I thought I’d give a quick update about my book! Although this is a long process, things are coming right along. I’ve done a lots of revisions, and I’m so happy with the way it’s all turning out. Each page is really polished.
I also just got word back from my publisher. He had an editor look over everything to make any suggestions, etc. Here are the comments that the editor said at the end:
“Excellent story. Kids will love it, and their parents would like it, also. I like the rhyming (good symmetry). The story has real cohesion. Every part seems to fall into place. These are all strong features, however the best part of the book, what really makes it stand out…are the illustrations. They are beautifully done.”
Isn’t that so nice? When I read that, I almost got tears in my eyes, I was so happy. Now the book is going to get a final once over, the publisher is going to finalize all the printing plans, and then off to the printer it goes! It will still be at least a few months, as I expected it would be, but it’s starting to be a reality!! Yay!

I’ve returned!!
Thursday, August 5th, 2010
I told you that I might be MIA for a little while, and it turns out I was right. I know, I know . . . you’ve all missed me! (does anyone even read this blog?) But I have been really busy the past month and a half doing things like this:
-Working on my children’s book! Boy, that was a lot of work! But it looks so polished and bright and beautiful, and I’ve turned everything in to the publisher. I’m dying to show you some illustrations, but you might have to wait until things are more finalized.
-Quilting: This will be the largest quilt I’ve ever done! It will go perfectly in our bedroom, but still need to hand stitch it.
-Refinishing some furniture: This beauty is in my hubby’s geek room. My favorite part: the top is chalkboard paint! Best decision I’ve ever made (when it comes to refinishing furniture).
-Seeing the sights of the central coast when my parents came out for a visit! Oh, it was so much fun. Come back, Mom and Dad! I miss you.
the beautiful Pismo Beach
-I’ve also been looking for jobs and have had interviews, but no success. Ahhh, the life of being an artist! I’m definitely welcoming any custom pieces you’d like to have done. So please, give me a holler!!
That’s what I’ve been up to! Stay tuned for future posts on all my art projects coming up! Until then . . .
